Positioning ourselves in the hospital sector – large delivery to Haukeland University Hospital

During 2021, Rapp Bomek will deliver specially adapted fire doors to Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen, Norway. The hospital sector is an important focus area for the Bodø company, which sees an increasing need for fire doors in hospitals. 

In 2011, construction began on a new children's and young people’s hospital at Haukeland University Hospital. The last construction phase is planned to be completed in 2023. “The glass blocks” is the name given to this new part of the hospital where children and young people under the age of 18 will have assessment, treatment, accommodation, schooling and activities, all gathered in one place. During 2021, Rapp Bomek will deliver fire doors to the project. Hospitals have special requirements for fire doors that, among other things, must withstand frequent use, including bangs and scrapes from beds, solid sound-insulating properties and protection against X-rays.

A growing market 
– The hospital sector is growing strongly in Norway. Over the coming years, several large projects are planned throughout the country, requiring fireproof doors adapted to hospital operations. We want to take a strong position in this market. Our delivery to Haukeland is a good reference project, demonstrating that we have good products to offer hospitals and care homes. Rapp Bomek will focus further on developing our product portfolio to meet the needs and standards in this segment, says Marius Stormoen, Deputy CEO of Rapp Bomek.

The construction contractor Åsane Byggmesterforretning will be responsible for installation of the fire doors. The Bergen company is also experiencing an increasing need for combination products for fire and security doors and windows for hospitals, but also for public buildings such as museums and police stations. A close supplier collaboration for this type of project will be very important and is a key success criterion.
