Delivered 250 steel doors to new Deichman library

This summer, Oslo's new main library Deichman Bjørvika was finally able to open its doors to the public. Rapp Bomek has installed 250 steel doors for the prestigious project.

On June 18th 2020, after a six-year construction process, the new Deichman main library finally opened its doors to the public. The library has moved from Hammersborg to a brand new and unique building in Bjørvika, centrally located between Oslo S and the Opera.

Built for the future
Deichman Bjørvika is one of the largest investments in cultural buildings in Oslo with a price tag of around NOK 2.5 billion. The main library has become a unique and futuristic building with six floors of literature, reading and study places, stages, cinema halls and workshops. Deichman Bjørvika has around 450,000 books and media available for free lending.

Largest supplier on the project
Rapp Bomek has been the largest supplier of doors to Deichman Bjørvika. Since February 2018, the company has delivered around 250 steel doors through AF Gruppen which has been responsible for installation. The steel doors are installed in all kinds of spaces including technical rooms, public and outdoor areas, quiet rooms, meeting rooms, activity rooms, stage rooms, as well as safety rooms, stairwells, ventilation rooms, a reception hall and parking.

“The delivery has combined single and double interior doors in both standard sizes and special dimensions. To the public areas, doors with glass elements and steel profiles in various colour schemes have been delivered, making the visual aesthetics very pleasing,” says Sales Manager in Rapp Bomek, Mr. Bjørn Oset.

Rapp Bomek often delivers tailor made solutions, as architects often want to achieve a specific aesthetic expression, or contractors have technical solutions that require specific measurements.
 
Strict safety requirements
In a public cultural building, such as Deichman Bjørvika, which aims at 2 million visitors yearly, high demands are made on doors regarding fire, smoke density and safety. The doors installed have a sound reduction of 43 dB and are insulated with stone wool and plaster. They are also fire-insulated according to fire class (A60 – A120) and classified into the RC4/RC5 safety class, which means that in the event of a burglary it should take more than 30 minutes to break open the door.

"There are increasing demands for fire and safety in new buildings with steel doors. Today we supply steel doors to a wide range of buildings and structures, including cultural buildings, office buildings, hospitals, schools, prisons and tunnels," says Executive Vice President Mr. Tore Flaterud.
